Day 17

Posted: July 21, 2010 in Uncategorized

It’s been an exhausting few days.  My new room mate here is really cool and we’re getting along well so that’s good news, the rest of the new people are well, less then awesome.

I managed to burn 3244 calories on Sunday, 5122 on Monday and a massive 6238 calories on Tuesday.  After yesterday’s effort I was feeling a little depleted today so I only just made it over 5000 calories.

I was pretty happy yesterday as I managed to knock over a minute off my time at Balam Athletics track this week in our 1600m race.

Day 14

Posted: July 18, 2010 in Uncategorized

So a fair bit has happened in the last few days so I’ll do a quick recap;

Thursday was a huge day – I managed to make it to the ‘horse’ (that was the objective of the run along the beach) in about 26 minutes which had me arriving first.  It was fun but quite challenging as every set of steps or ramps we met we had to take and that wasn’t inconsiderable!

We did a few other things outside on Thursday but lets just leave it at it was a fairly intense cardio day but I loved it.

Friday we started the day with an activity called ‘1000 steps’ – turns out it’s a Kokoda memorial track and quite intense.  The walk to the steps was only 800m but it’s all uphill and it’s quite a steep incline.  I managed to do the stairs in 15 minutes which put me about a minute or a minute and a half behind Peter but I was pretty happy with that as it was quite hard to pace myself as I had no idea how much further there was to go.

The rest of Friday was a bit ‘meh’ in terms of activity for me – it was all rather low intensity and not really worth writing about.

Saturday was the big weigh in day and I found out I lost 6.4kg in the last fortnight.  I was hoping for a little more – something like 10kg would’ve been nice but I still think I’d have been happy with 8 or so.  I’m a little down that I didn’t reach my goal or even come close but I took most of the day off to just process it all and figure out what I have to do for this next fortnight.

The other thing that happened yesterday is 3 people left the house all of whom I got along really well with so that bites a bit.

I also spoke with Adro about my results and indicated I wasn’t thrilled and as such this next fortnight I was intended to skip a few (if not all!) classes and just hit the gym/go walking as I feel I’m capable of more then what the program is providing exercise wise.

On that note, it’s 7:30 AM on a Sunday (our day off) so I’m off for a walk, ugh so freaking cold!

Day 10

Posted: July 14, 2010 in Uncategorized

Today I started to notice a change – one of my favourite (read: comfortable) shirts is considerably looser then when I started here so that’s good news.

We don’t get to weigh in until this Saturday so it’s really good to have noticed some of the hard work is already paying dividends.

I was feeling a little off today so I only managed 3414 calories but I’m hopeful that tomorrow I’ll be back in form and ready to run.  First up is a run along a boardwalk that’s parrallel to the beach….at 6:00 AM so here’s hoping it’s not freezing!

Night.

Day 9 and I’m still alive!

Posted: July 13, 2010 in Uncategorized

So I’ve completed day 9 and I’m still alive which is no small feat.  Today I burned about 5250 calories and consumed 985 so not a bad day all up.

Due to being in lockdown several guests were starting to feel a bit stressed (cabin fever) so we had a bit of an outing in to the Melbourne CBD on Saturday which was great.  They set us a challenge of going to a food court and eating healthy – I ended up having some chicken strips from Oporto (250 calories) so not too bad considering there was a fantastic look pizza and burger place in the food court!  I must confess I did have a minor fall off the bandwagon but I can’t go in to more detail until this experience is over in case someone reads this – I don’t want to be punished by the trainers! Smile

I also managed to injure myself on Saturday morning doing hill sprints which was quite frustrating as I was leading the pack and coping very well.  Some kind of groin muscle wasn’t too happy about it and it was too painful to run so I had to walk the rest of them Sad smile.

Sunday was a day of recovery so we spent most of it in the spa with lemon water and music (it was the closest thing to a party we could manage!) and my body was starting to recover.

Unfortunately during body combat class on Monday morning (6:00 AM) whatever I hurt on Saturday was back.  I got the masseuse to take a look at it and it helped a tiny bit but I was still in pain.  Next up was the Athletics track at Balam park  (the same one we went to last week except this time it was open).  Even injured I managed to beat my time by 25 seconds and I was walking for most of it so that’s something – would’ve loved to have been able to run it out.

We then had a 50m sprint and I couldn’t help myself – I just had to race everyone else!  I thought I’d be okay as I’d managed to half jog the last lap on the track and was feeling quite warm so I went for it (and won!) but now I was really starting to hurt.

The New Me has a staff member who specalises in Myopathy and I’d heard he had crazy healing powers – I had nothing to lose so gave it a whirl and just wow.  I think this guy replaces physios as my favourite medicine/doctor like people – he managed to just get right to the pain and sort me out.

I was still a little sore for the rest of the day but today I had full movement back.  I still took it a little easy ‘just in case’ but I think one day this week (probably Thursday?) I’lll try and crack the 6000 calorie mark Winking smile

Anyway it’s an hour past bed time and I need to go put my washing in the dryer and get some sleep – Night!

Day 4

Posted: July 8, 2010 in Uncategorized

So the day started at 5:30-5:45 and after a quick shower I had my blood pressure and blood sugar checked which confirmed I was in ketosis, woo!

We went off to Hastings which was some kind of park by some kind of water front – god damn it was cold!  We ran around this track which was about 2km but at every park bench we’d stop and do a strength exercise (dips, push ups or squats).  After doing two laps I started doing 20m sprints followed by 20m of walking whilst we waited for the others to get back to the bus.

After arriving back at the house I had two boiled eggs with ham that I cooked in the pan – was almost like bacon!  Next up was yard work…lets just say it was muddy.  Very muddy.

In the mud we had to move logs and tyres – there was a “limbo” style obstacle that we had to climb under except it was too low to do the limbo so eventually you had to get on your hands and knees to crawl under it – all through mud!  Thankfully I was wearing a bright orange shirt The New Me supplied Winking smile

After a quick shower it was time for class with Adro Sarnelli about nutrition.

Our next exercise session was based around recovery so it was a lot of stretching followed by one of the hardest things I’ve had to do.  We had to jump in the pool and I think it must have been about 4 or 5 degrees celsius.  After a minute we were able to jump in the spa for a minute then we had to repeat this 7 times.

Our next class was actually watching a DVD – I’m not sure the name of the show but it was a British show and it had a diet swap between an overweight person and an anorexic person.

After watching one episode I actually went up to bed and took a nap (big mistake!) whilst the rest of the group had another class but this time it was a cooking class on Thai food.

After I woke up I still wasn’t that hungry even though the group had saved me a plate so I hit the gym and did 15 minutes on the exercise bike before one of the trainers walked in and asked “Where were you during the cooking class”….

He decided that instead of continuing my exercise routine he’d give me a 1 on 1 personal training session and boy did he make me pay for that hours sleep!  That said I reckon I’d do it again Winking smile

I had some of the dinner but don’t seem to have much of an appetite – I got about half of it down and had a handful of nuts to boost up my calorie intake to 1000 for the day.  I burnt just over 4800 calories today so not too shabby at all.

Tomorrow there’s three high intensity training sessions – I’m a little worried but I’m sure I’ll survive.

Day 3

Posted: July 7, 2010 in Uncategorized

First up, my head hurts.

Today I learned the importance of punctuality.  I was but a few seconds late and Gavin (one of the trainers) was on my back – he separated me from the group and worked me hard.  On the upside it was kind of a free personal training session Winking smile

We started off the day boxing at 6:00 for an hour-hour and a half followed by breakfast which for me was a poached egg, ham, spinach and some yoghurt.  We then had our morning walk (just walking up and down a reallly long drive way for 30 minutes) and then a class with Gavin.  Lunch was up next where I made a decent Salmon and Egg salad (was quite surprised at how much I liked it!) and then I had the one on one counselling which interrupted my afternoon work out Sad smile.  After a class with Adro and a massage we had chicken parmigiana for dinner which brought me to about 7:30.  Got in some xbox with DL and now it’s time for bed at 9:30.

Every body part hurts but hopefully it’ll be better in the morning and if not at least this headache will be gone *fingers crossed*

Night.

The New Me – Day 1

Posted: July 5, 2010 in Uncategorized

So I’ve decided to take a new approach – after losing 52kg and then putting 20 back on and then losing 10 of that (confused much? net result is -40kg) I decided to stop everything and just focus on my health for a few weeks.  As such I’ve joined this program called The New Me which is run by Adro Sarnelli – basically I’ve committed to something akin to the biggest loser minus the tv cameras.

I casually mentioned to a friend of mine that I was going and he should join me (not actually expecting him to say yes!) and he surprised and said “lets give it a whirl”.  We checked in to the retreat/resort/prison today and started with the weigh in and a pleasant lunch (vegetable + lamb kebab and a chicken green curry) followed by a few classes and then the fitness test.

Wasn’t a huge day today but I’m pretty tired (mostly because my friend dragged me to the casino last night!) so looking forward to lights out in an hour (9:30).  The early morning start will be….interesting (5:30 AM!).

Don’t have much else to say right now but tomorrow’s post should be interesting.

Okay day 5 and still going which is good…weekend could be a bit of a problem but fingers crossed.

I cycled in to work today and it’s left me buggered, I could really go with some sleep right about now.

That’s all for Today.

Another day, another diet

Posted: January 6, 2010 in Uncategorized

So things really haven’t been going that well diet wise I think I’ve put something like 20kg on since my lowest weigh in so I’m still down about 30 odd but it’s pretty dishearting to have put weight on rather than have lost more.

Anyway to try and minimise the distractions (aka parties / social gatherings) I’ve moved to Brisbane for a few months for work and I’m hoping that due to a lack of transport (car) I’ll ride the bike I purchased and eat better.

I’ve been back on the diet for 3 days (well this is the third day) and no headaches this time around which is good, here’s hoping I can stick too it.  I’m going to get in the habit of updating this blog more often as I seem to do better diet wise when I write about it.

Only other thing to report is I’m incredibly tired but that could be because I haven’t been eating all the required meals/snacks on the diet – I’ve just been poorly organised but things are looking good for today onwards so here’s hoping I’ve got my act together.
